Beach Volleyball Is Increasing in Fame Around the World - Here Are Some Tips So You Can Join in!

Beach volleyball is a sport which is growing in popularity all over the world.

Not only are people increasingly watching and following the sport, but more people are taking part and playing it.
Beach volleyball is already an Olympic sport and its continuing position as a leading ball sport is positioning it as one that really is growing. Clubs and teams are being formed in every country, and players are enjoying the sport from young ages. Professionals are doing their part to promote the sport too, in person, and online via news and tutorials.

If you want to join in and try beach volleyball, then all you have to do is get down to the beach and play! Even a simple game, with your friends and a ball, will give you a taste of how much fun this sport is.
The equipment is not expensive, and often, there will be volleyball courts set up on popular beaches, so you'll be able to join in very easily.

Beach volleyball is not very different to standard volleyball. The main difference is you will be playing on a beach.
You won't need shoes, and beachwear is acceptable attire.
Playing on sand is very different to standard court flooring, so if you haven't tried it we recommend you do! It's easy, running around in your bare feet in the sand.

Many players say that it really tests their skills, and even the change in how the balls moves on the sand makes a difference to how the game is played.
The beach volleyball court is slightly smaller than a standard court. It is 8 x 8 meters, whereas an indoor court is 9 x 9 meters.
In beach volleyball, a block counts with the first ball contact.

And players don't need to rotate or change positions while they are playing as they do during an indoor game.

There are a few differences with the rules too.

The best idea is to join in on a few volleyball games with some experienced players.
The rules for indoor volleyball are far stricter, especially when it comes to double hitting, hand-sets and finger passes.

Getting on to the beach and playing is the best way to learn the rules. There are popular national and regional beach volleyball teams in most countries now.
The sport is most popular in the USA, Brazil and Australia, which is hardly surprising since they have some amazing weather, and some of the world's best beaches! If you are keen to learn how to play beach volleyball but don't live near a beach, we suggest you start with indoor volleyball at your local sports centre.

Then, when you have some experience, we suggest you arrange to watch some beach games, and then join in. There are many local clubs you can join.
Do a search online to find out your local clubs.
Meeting enthusiasts and forming friendships with other players is a great way to learn more about the sport and improve your game playing skills.

5 Ways to Entertain Kids on a Rainy Day

I have some pretty active kids as do many of you, and although often they can occupy themselves, even when it's rainy, not always.

Rainy weekends can be difficult as can rainy vacations, especially if we are away from home, their friends, and all their toys and other stuff.

Here are a five ways to help pass the time and entertain kids when it's rainy of otherwise inclement outside. Kids love games and playing games can certainly work well.
If you are away from home this can be tough, but we always carry a set of "Uno" cards in the car and worst case you can buy a cheap set of cards almost anywhere. My youngest daughter is a bit too young to play so we usually team her up with an adult which works very well. A family movie is another good idea.
There are plenty of kid's movies that are adult friendly as well, for example the Shrek movies and Kung Fu Panda.

Just because it's a kids movie doesn't mean you have to suffer.
Both movie theatres and a DVD at home work. If at home, make popcorn and basically turn it into an event.
Arts and Crafts projects are also great rainy day activities. My kids can play with Playdoh for hours and beads can occupy them for an entire afternoon.
If they are not interested in this, perhaps a new art or craft you've saved for a day like this might excite them.

For example, we whipped out some finger paints recently we'd been hiding and the kids were almost doing backflips from the excitement! Building a fort inside from furniture, pillows, towels, and maybe more can also be a great activity. You do need to set some ground rules as to what they can and can't use, and perhaps explain the fort needs to be disassembled and the parts put away before bedtime.

They may want you to help as well, with might just mean advise them based on their ideas. Of course you might just go outside as well.
My kids won't usually do this themselves but if I do too they sometimes will.
We were on vacation at the beach recently and we had some grumpy kids due to a rainy day.

We did a movie in the morning, and then we went to the beach anyways in the rain.

We played Frisbee and ball, swam, ate, and pretended it wasn't raining. Although we got cold and wet after an hour or two, the kids are still talking about how fun it was!

Herd Sense

The navigation system in my vehicle is at least two generations old.
It relies on a DVD drive nestled beneath the driver's seat, where heat, vibration and its age make it increasingly quirky. I'd swear the thing has said "Make an illegal U-turn" on more than one occasion.

So as I was sitting in traffic and spying every Jane Doe calling, texting, Face book-updating and Twittering - because it's important to let all your tweebs that you're at mile marker 91.2 - the upside of what I was seeing became clear; everyone is connecting, or can be connected to.
Everyone has a phone. And every phone has a known location (via GPS or cell tower triangulation).
Now think about what can be done with that knowledge..

. If a cellular carrier knows where every phone is, then it knows how many of us are on each road, at what restaurant, or at home at a given time. Mix in historical information about the rate at which users transition from cell to cell and the number of users in a given area (such as where a roadway is) and you've got the means to not only observe but infer useful information (such as traffic speed) from all that data. If our locations are known, then how long will it be before our cellular providers offer navigation to not just places, but to people we seek? Or to a pet with a beacon on its collar.
Or an Alzheimer's sufferer with a transponder.
And we get to have all this without each being tagged with a harpoon dart or with something large clamped to our ear as we'd expect to see in wildlife videos.
Then again, it might be easier trying to pry an ear transponder off a bear than my son's cell phone from his fingers. "Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? If so, text "K.

" "Do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? If not, text "L8R.
" "If there is anyone here, online or in attendance by bot proxy that objects, text "NG" now or forever hold your tweets.
" "With the power vested in me, I pronounce you man and wife.
You may change your relationship status now.
" So here are my predictions: Prediction 1: Cellular providers will find new revenue sources based on your location. Navigation is great. But it is given away just to get people to own phones that drive up application purchases. Or data subscriptions.

How much would it be worth to you if your phone could tell you not only a fast way to reaching your destination, but a faster way based on where you and everyone else was? Or to avoid merging into a likely quagmire of red tail lights? Sign me up! Prediction 2: Cellular providers will find new revenue sources based on your location habits.

Knowing what people are individually likely to do based on what they have done in the past, or what groups of people will do based on past behavior seems an obvious next step. Take a dash of position information.
Add a pinch of historic data storage.
And out pops recommendations.
.
. like people of your income who previously visited Chinese restaurants before going to the movies favored the following restaurants within a 15 minute drive of where you are now, based on traffic now.

OK.
Creepy, but cool.
And isn't it wonderful that someone will have to sell all the servers and database storage and related infrastructure and services that will make all this possible? Chime in and share your thoughts.

Summer Day Camps Are Great for Bored Children!

Summer is a fun time for activity and enjoyment for kids.
Camps can help them fill their summer with excitement. The following is a look at some of the summertime activities for kids and the benefits of summer camp: Kids love to swim.
Swimming has been a summer pastime for years.
Many summer camps offer swimming as an activity that kids can participate in, and most kids jump at the chance to do so.
They love the ability to stay cool, get a tan, and just enjoy time with friends. This is a great way to get fit during the summer as well.
Swimming can be a full body workout, which means that having your kids participate in swimming as one of their summer activities, and as an activity offered at any camp you send them to. If you aren't sending your kid to summer camp, and there is a pool nearby, then get them a swim pass to the poor for the summer so that they have something to do during the summer.

Another great summer activity for kids is a team sport.
There are all kinds of soccer leagues, baseball, t-ball, football, touch football, softball, coach pitch, tennis, and other things.
So, ask your kid which summer activity they are interested in, and then sign them up.
They can either be part of a team that they practice with and play games on weekends or a specific night of the week.

Or, they might want to go to a summer camp that is a sports camp and focused on a specific sport, so they learn different skills, drills, techniques, and the like.
Sports help kids learn to get along with others, work with people, helps them stay active, and can be a lot of fun. These are all good reasons for sports and sport camps to be part of your kid's summer activities. Another great summer activity is having your kid take a class or visit a day camp or summer camp of some kind.
Usually it is something like space camp, or a class on photography or something else that interests them, but is still fun for summer, and is not really serious like a literature class or math class.
Options could include things like pottery, art, music, dance, karate, etc.
Find an activity your child has always wanted to be apart of or try, and then sign them up for a camp or a class so that they can experience.
It will fill their day with fun activities, and give them a chance to see if they are as interested in it as they thought they would be. If you are running low on activities for your kid, ask them what they are interested in.
Most recreation centers, colleges, and the like offer plenty of summer activities to keep your kids busy and learning, while having fun.

Computer Skins for Laptops - Why Use Them?

Recently, computer skins for laptops have become one of the hottest computer accessories.
Maybe you are one of the few people who do not know what they are. You have probably heard about them from a friend or colleague, or maybe your children have been bugging you to get one of them.

So what are these things anyway? A laptop skin is a protective film that you can stick on the outside of your laptop computer.

It is usually available in three size options: small (for 9" and 10" laptops), medium (for 13", 14", 15" laptops) and large (for 16" and 17" laptops).
It is also available in a wide variety of designs and colors, and you can pick the one that suits your taste.

If you are looking for something unique, many websites as well as shops that sell computer accessories offer laptop skin customization services. You can bring the soft copy of your favorite photo to a shop and ask them to turn that photo into a laptop cover.

It can be a photograph of your family, your favorite band, or your favorite holiday destination.
If you are creative enough, you can also make your own design and get it printed at a shop.
Computer skins for laptops are usually made of a thin plastic film with an adhesive backing.
Some shops even sell premium ones that are made of leather or suede. Unlike conventional stickers, these skins are removable. You should be able to remove it easily and re-stick the skin without any problem. The adhesive will not leave any residue when you remove it. Despite that, the adhesive is strong enough to make the skin stick effectively to your laptop. It is important that you read the instructions given by the manufacturer before applying the skin on your laptop. Follow the instructions carefully to avoid any mistakes. Make sure that you get right size skin.

If you are not sure of how to apply the skin, you can bring your laptop along to the shop and ask one of the employees to assist you.
So what are computer skins for laptops good for? They are excellent for protecting the exterior of a laptop.

Laptops, especially the glossy plastic ones, are easily scratched or damaged by other objects or even dust. A computer skin will protect the surface of a laptop from any unwanted damages.
If your laptop already has some minor scratches on it, you can apply a protective skin to make it looks as good as new and to prevent further damages.
You can use a computer skin to personalize your laptop as well.
Even though laptops are available in many attractive colors, they are still not good enough.
And since they are no longer considered a luxury, it is not uncommon to see other people using the same brand, same model and same color laptops.
You can personalize your laptop with a protective skin to make it stand out from the rest.
It is a good way to express yourself as well.

Comprehending Window Settings on a Graphing Calculator

Even though they have a plethora of capabilities, the most important ability of a graphing calculator is still the first, graphing.
Despite this being the most critical feature, many students still do not utilize the window capabilities, which is not acceptable. First, one must understand how the graphing capabilities work on a calculator.
Regardless of whether use a TI-73 or a Casio Prizm, it will be practically the same.
The calculator is really simply trying to plot points.
At an interval that you select, say every.

1, the calculator plugs in an x value to get a y value and then starts drawing those points.
Unfortunately, the calculator doesn't really know where the points should be drawn.
Most simply begin by using a screen that displays somewhere around all the x's and y's between about -10 and 10.

That's great for certain functions.

Many lines, quadratic equations, and conics are going to be fine with this regular viewing window.
On the contrary, there are plenty of number of equations like trig functions, exponential functions, even some of the heretofore mentioned equations that won't look good with that window.

So when your function doesn't look right in the normal window, how can you fix it? One possibility is to manually improve the window settings.
When you improve the window settings manually, you have complete control over them.

It can be hard to find exactly which dimensions are best for your equation.
One calculation that can help is to find the zeroes.
If you set the maximum x and y about of twenty five percent of the intercepts, you should have a pretty good viewing window.
If it still looks "weird", don't give up. Try multiplying your dimensions by two.

On the other hand, you could multiply by one half. Oftentimes, a bit of experimentation can really help. If that still doesn't do the trick, there are other options to let the calculator solve the problem itself.
Nearly all graphing calculators highlight a zoom option.

The zoom option is not one zoom but numerous zooms. If there is a zoom box feature, you can use that to create a box on the screen and have the calculator just zoom in on that box. Another option is zoom square.

This will set your window up to make equations show up as they actually do, not distorted despite the fact that many calculators are not square.

If you are working on a trigonometry function, look to see if there is zoom trig capability. Zoom trig will even adjust to whether you are using degrees or radians.
It'll set the dimensions from 2 pi to -2 pi or 360 to -360 as needed.

If nothing else works, some calculators have a zoom fit option.
This will use the calculator's best attempt to get the equation to fit on the screen in an accurate and simple to read way.

To conclude, if you need to be a brilliant student in math with a graphing calculator, you need to be aware of the window capabilities with your calculator.

They make algebra less difficult to get the hang of, and they offer higher awareness into how your equations work.
